Patagonia River Guides is excited to announce the opening of PRG North in the San Martin de los Andes area for 2011!  You can now expect the same level of service, amazing equipment, first class lodges, gourmet food, and talented guides in a new and unique venue.  Our philosophy of fishing the best rivers at the best times with the best guides will be followed closely, and we have partnered with Alex Knull to head the program.  Alex and his team of skilled guides are taking the Patagonia River Guides principles and philosophies to the amazing and beautiful northern region of Patagonia.

Alex Knull brings over ten years of experience to the Patagonia River Guides team.  His knowledge of the area is unmatched as he was raised in the San Martin area by a multi-generational flyfishing family.  His great grandfather was one of the first Argentines to take Americans fishing and his family continues in the industry today.  Apart from being a talented guide and gracious host, Alex is extremely organized and is a natural fit for PRG.  Let Alex show you the best of flyfishing in the San Martin de los Andes Region.

Fish Inspiring Waters

Why would you choose to fish in San Martin de los Andes?  The area is the most recognized region in all of Argentine Patagonia.  Follow in the footsteps of Joe Brooks, Ernie Schwiebert, Roderick Haig Brown, and Mel Kreiger, and fish rivers such as:  Chimehuin, Malleo, Collon Cura, Caleufu, Limay, and Traful.  In addition to the fabled waters, there are many smaller freestone, spring creeks, and scenic lakes.   San Martin de los Andes offers some of the best dryfly fishing in the country and there are many rivers to wade and others that are best floated.  The variety of water is similar to what you will find in Esquel and Rio Pico and it is possible to fish a different river daily similar to what we have been doing in the Esquel region for the past nine years.  Each river is distinctly different and you will enjoy fishing diversity such as:  matching the hatch with dry flies, exciting terrestrial fishing, and challenging sight fishing, as well as, prospecting from a boat and stripping steamers for the fish of a lifetime.

Stay at Luxury Lodges and Estancias

One of the most attractive parts of the San Martin experience is your ability to stay at several world renown lodges and estancias.   Unlike fishing at our exclusive lodges in the Esquel and Rio Pico Regions, you travel with your guide to stay on large estancias and fish their private water.  This isn't always the case and trips from the town of San Martin de los Andes can also be arranged with a great sampling of area rivers. Guests can choose from celebrated lodges like Arroyo Verde on the Traful River once called, "The best lodge in the world, period!" by Charles Gains or Tipiliuke Lodge on the Estancia Cerro de los Pinos, which many consider to be the finest flyfishing lodge in South America.  You also have the choice of staying at Estancia San Huberto on the Malleo River, which happens to be one of the most exclusive venues in the country.  There are others such as the massive two hundred thousand acre Estancia Quemquemtreu on the Collón Cura and the stunning Estancia Tres Lagos completely surrounded by Lanin National Park .

The PRG Difference

Patagonia River Guides is not inventing anything new in San Martin de los Andes but rather putting their attention to detail on custom trips in the area.  Alex and his team of talented guides will have the best and newest equipment available to fulfill and succeed your expectations, such as:  new Toyota trucks and NRS rafts.  As always, Patagonia River Guides will provide everything at one price--no add-ons or extra costs.  All flies, leaders, tippet, Simms waders and wading boots, Winston rods and Hatch reels will be available.  Apart from being the best-equipped outfitter in the region, Patagonia River Guides will provide and demand the best in service and attention to the angler.  We already have experienced travel agents to assist you with every step of your travel, and we personally make every reservation, run the office, and communicate with every guest to ensure that the booking process and travel are as efficient and enjoyable as possible.  Because we host every trip, you won't get sold what we can't deliver.
