Patagonia River Guides Esquel and Los Alerces Fishing Lodge

Up to twelve guests per week can enjoy all the comforts of our beautiful Lodge located near the town of Trevelin ten miles south of Esquel.  Located in a stunning mountain valley, PRG's Lodge at Trevelin has stunning 365-degree views of the area and four mountain ranges.  The lodge has unbeatable access to both Los Alerces National Park and the Esquel Area's best rivers.  The main lodge features nine rooms each with private bathroom.  Six spacious bedrooms are located upstairs and three are on the main floor.  Each of the main level rooms has a door extending to deck.  Two of the downstairs bedrooms are configured in a suite with a connecting door perfect for friends that want to have a shared room concept.  The lodge also includes a cabin, which contains three large bedrooms each with private bath.  Each room in the cabin opens to a deck overlooking the Rio Percey and its valley.  The rooms in the cabin are completely independent of each other and this unit is perfect for a group of friends. Each of the twelve rooms--all with private baths--are tastefully appointed with everything guests would expect at the finest hotels, and because we never accommodate more than twelve guests at a time, every guest will enjoy SINGLE OCCUPANCY COMPLIMENTARY!  There are few lodges that offer such a luxury without an upgrade charge.  The lodge is ideal for couples and for non-fishing guests.  For complete river descriptions and non-fishing activities, please browse those sections on our website.

The main floor of the lodge contains an office center for guests, gift store, dining room, and two living rooms each with their own bar.  The living rooms are on opposite sides of the lodge allowing guests separation if desired.  One living room contains a cozy fireplace and the other has a six-stool bar overlooking the Trevelin Valley with direct access to a huge deck with an outside fireplace.  Our dining room includes a large table and an indoor parillia (indoor barbeque grill) at the end of the table, where guests enjoy gourmet food (some of the best in Patagonia) prepared by our chef in the evening.
Delicious Food, Wines, and Beverage

Our programs are all inclusive and we provide all food and beverage during your stay.  Breakfast is hearty and consists of eggs to order, toast, jams, cereals, meats, fruits, juices, tea and coffee.  Lunch is culinary delight and is normally served streamside.  Our picnic lunches includes a nice combination of area meats, cheeses, vegetables, wine, and dessert making this an experience that you'll be looking forward to daily and one of the highlights of the trip.  Dinner is typically served around 9:00 pm and after cocktail hour, giving guests a chance for some downtime and to tell others about their day  For those who choose to fish later, a late dinner gives them more time to get back to the lodge for dinner.  Dinner is typically three courses and features regional dishes indluding Patagonia's famous beef, lamb, pork, chicken, rabbit, fish, pasta and vegetables.  A different Malbec wine is served nightly with dinner allowing guests to sample several throughout their stay.

San Martin and Junin de los Andes Lodging Options

One of the most attractive parts of the San Martin experience is your ability to choose from well known lodges and estancias (large ranches).  Unlike fishing from our exclusive lodges in the Esquel and Rio Pico Regions, guests travel with their guide and stay on estancias and fish their private water.  Each estancia is completely unique from the others and staying at at least two or three is recommended.  Food, beverage and service is all first class and staying right on the water you are going to fish is certainly a plus.  Drives are as short as ten minutes, and because of the lodge's proximity to the fishing, many guests choose to return to the lodge for lunch and a nap before heading back out to hit the evening hatch.  For those that like to stay on the water or when float trips are arranged, delicious picnics are provided for guests and guides.  See the list below for some offerings and contact us today to put together an unforgettable estancia trip.

Tipiliuke Lodge
Tipiliuke Lodge is located on the Estancia Cerro de los Pinos (over 50,000 acres) owned by the Larminat family. This five-star lodge is recognized as being one of the finest in the world.  It is distinguished for its all around service, accommodation, and food as well as having over nine-miles of the Chimehuín River.  In addition to the Chimehuín, there is also a large stretch of the Quilquihue River running through the ranch.  Tipiliuke is one of the best choices for wading since the longest drive to the river from the lodge is less than ten minutes.  This lodge takes sixteen guests but only twelve rods are allowed at any time. Tipiliuke is only a twenty-five minute drive away from the town of San Martín de los Andes making a visit into town a very pleasant morning or afternoon trip.  Tipiliuke is the best option for the non-fishing guest offering horseback riding, trekking, bird watching and other activities as well as a sauna and masseuse.  Its close proximity to the Chapelco Golf Resort makes golfing at one of the best Jack Nicklaus designed golf course in South America possible as well.

San Huberto Lodge
The San Huberto Lodge is the only place to stay when fishing the Malleo River.  This beautiful lodge was completely renovated in 1999 and has room for sixteen guests.  The service is superb as are the meals.  There is also an in-house bar, hot tub, and masseuse.  San Huberto is a household name when talking about fishing in Patagonia and space is incredibly limited.  Booking in advance is a must.  Guests have access to over twenty-miles of incredible wade fishing and private access to some of the best sections of the Malleo River and Huaca Mamuil Creek, which is only accessible if staying at the lodge.

Estancia Quemquemtreu
Estancia Quemquemtreu is one of the largest ranches in the area encompassing close to two hundred thousand acres. Quemquemtreu is one of the most beautiful and interesting fully working ranches in Patagonia.  Your hosts, Paula and Martín Zimmermann, make you feel at home the moment you arrive and their incredible service and laid-back attitudes provide for a very casual and satisfying experience. Their lodge has five spacious and very comfortable double rooms located in a wing off of the dining.  The lodge also features a cozy sitting room centered around a rock fireplace. The bar is located in a separate building where you will enjoy wide variety of hour' devours, wine, or the drink of your choice before heading for dinner.  From Quemquemtreu, we can fish about twenty miles of the Collón Cura River, one of the most productive fishing rivers in Argentina.  Floating is the preferred to fish this river because of its size, and covering large portions of water is the norm.  Lodging at this ranch also gives exclusive access to the Quemquemtreu creek, an incredible walk wading stream.  It fishes best in the months of November, December, early January, and also during the month of May.
Estancia Arroyo Verde
Estancia Arroyo Verde is owned by Memé Lariviere and her family. Lodging is in the main house, which can accommodate up to ten guests. The service here is truly deluxe, the lodging elegant, and the location, we are not afraid to say, is one of the most beautiful in the world. This location is very popular with guests traveling with non-fishing spouses offering additional activities such as horseback riding, hiking, and bird watching.  The only way to fish the Traful River is to stay on this ranch, which enjoys ten miles of river starting at Traful Lake.  Charles Gaines, writer for Forbes magazine probably summed the lodge up best saying,  "Since childhood I have visited a truly shocking number of fishing lodges and not one of them was ever as good as Arroyo Verde".

Estancia Tres Lagos
Estancia Tres Lagos is a privately owned cattle ranch located forty miles southwest of San Martín de los Andes in the Lanín National Park.  The estancia offers some of the most spectacular scenery in northern Patagonia, while extending over eighty thousand acres of land.  Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are first class and are enjoyed at the main house.  Three beautiful cabins, which were built about ten years ago, surround the home and overlook the Filo Hua Hum lake making waking up in the morning and looking out the window an unforgettable moment.  Three lakes surround the estancia: Lago Falkner, Lago Nuevo and Lago Filo Hua Hum.  The Filo Hua Hum River flows from the Lago Nuevo to Lago Filo Hua Hum for about eight miles.

Collón Cura Lodge
This wonderful Lodge is located on the banks of the Collón Cura River.  It is one of the three ranches in Patagonia owned by Ted Turner and managed by former fishing guide Nano Acuña and his wife Malú. The establishment consists of two buildings separated by a beautiful garden. One building contains the dinning room where first class dinners and breakfast are served with bar and sitting area.  The other building is the guesthouse, which has four very spacious double rooms and another sitting area. From Collon Cura Lodge, we are able to provide day trips with incredible high-end picnics on the Collón Cura River.  It is important to note that we also have the opportunity of making day trips to the Limay River about an hour and a half away from the lodge.  It is a good choice for a combo trip to fish both the Collón Cura and the Limay.

PRG's Rio Pico Lodge

When we fish in The Rio Pico Region, our guests stay at the area's best flyfishing lodge offering comfortable accommodations, welcoming ambiance and perfect central location.  PRG leases the lodge exclusively and have spent years improving not only the comforts of the lodge, but also the service, food, and beverage.  Agustin Fox, our talented chef and lodge manager, runs the program, and he makes you feel at home the second you arrive.  His great English and sense of humor are unforgettable.  The lodge features four double rooms with private baths, including what may just be the best showers in Patagonia.  The focal point of the lodge is it's central fireplace in the great room of the main lodge, which allows guests to gather after fishing and have a few cocktails before dinner.  Each guest room opens to a covered porch with a spectacular view of Cerro Desnudo.

Meals are delicious (especially considering the remote location and three-hour drive to the store) and prepared with local ingredients.  Many of the vegetables come from the local school's greenhouse and the lodge's signature tenderloin with local morel mushroom sauce is always a favorite.   Apart from exquisite dinners, you will also enjoy a hearty breakfast before your fishing departure and then a very nice streamside lunch with wine.

The area is as remote as you can find in Patagonia and the vistas are incredible.   From the lodge, fishermen have access to dozens of lakes holding some of the largest fish in all of Patagonia, small spring creeks to test guests accuracy and rivers with miles and miles to walk and explore.  The Rio Pico area is rugged and there are few signs that things have changed here for decades.  Our guests love the solitude and the "unconnected" experience that you can only get by being so far removed.  And did we mention big fish?
