The Patagonia Cast & Blast Experience
Patagonia River Guides’ Cast & Blast experience offers a one-of-a-kind adventure for those who want to combine world-class fly fishing with thrilling hunting. From March 15 through May 1, guests can design a multi-day itinerary that fits their interests: dedicate some days to casting for trout, spend others tracking wild quail across golden hills, or reserve several days for the pursuit of trophy red stag. Each day is focused on a single adventure, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the unique challenges and beauty of Patagonia’s rivers, hills, and mountains.
This unique program provides flexibility and personalization. Guests can choose how many days to spend on each activity, creating a trip that suits their skills, stamina, and sense of adventure. PRG provides expert guides, top-notch gear, and all the logistics needed for an unforgettable multi-day Cast & Blast itinerary.

Quail Hunting in Patagonia
Over fifty years ago, six breeding pairs of California quail were released in Valle Traful. Today, thanks to temperate weather and abundant cover, the population has flourished across Central Patagonia.
These birds are fast, elusive, and unpredictable, a true test for any hunter. PRG’s quail program emphasizes authentic, wild hunting with well-trained pointers and expert guides who know every hill, valley, and brushy ravine. Each day dedicated to quail hunting involves several miles of walking through rolling grasslands and scenic river valleys, with four to ten coveys likely to appear. On a good day, hunters can expect to bag a dozen or more quail, rewarding both skill and endurance.
Unlike plantation-style or preserve hunting, PRG’s program provides a genuine Patagonia experience. The combination of careful habitat management, expert guide knowledge, and well-trained dogs ensures that guests enjoy both the challenge and the thrill of wild quail hunting.
Red Stag Hunting: The Roar of Patagonia
As autumn settles over Patagonia, the mountains and valleys come alive with the echoing roar of red stag. PRG offers both rifle and archery hunts in Central and Northern Patagonia, providing guests a range of options depending on their schedule and interests.
Multi-day trophy hunts take place on private estancias and remote mountain properties, including PRG South’s exclusive mountain estancia near Los Alerces National Park. These hunts are limited to just eight per year to maintain trophy quality. Guests spend several days tracking stags through forested valleys, open ridges, and river corridors, enjoying personalized guides, hearty meals, and the serenity of the Andes.
For those with limited time, day trips are available from PRG’s Lodge at Trevelin, offering quick access to Estancia Escondida, a 10,000-acre property with abundant red stag. These day hunts allow guests to dedicate a full day to stag hunting while still reserving other days for fishing or quail hunting during their multi-day Cast & Blast trip.
Flexible Multi-Day Adventures
What sets PRG’s Cast & Blast program apart is its flexibility. Guests can spend some days entirely on the river, some dedicated to quail hunting, and others focused on trophy stag pursuit. Each activity is immersive and tailored, ensuring every day delivers the right pace, challenge, and sense of accomplishment.
No other outfitter in South America offers this combination of world-class fly fishing, wild quail hunting, and trophy red stag adventures all accessible from the same lodge. By spreading activities across multiple days, guests can experience Patagonia’s diversity and intensity without rushing, savoring both the adventure and the scenery.
Lodge Comforts and Hospitality
After long days on the river or in the hills and mountains, guests return to the lodge to relax and recharge. Comfortable rooms, warm hospitality, and thoughtful details provide the perfect contrast to Patagonia’s wild landscapes. The balance of rugged adventure during the day and relaxation in the evening makes each Cast & Blast trip both rewarding and restorative.
Plan Your Cast & Blast Adventure
The Cast & Blast season runs from March 15 to May 1, and availability is limited,, particularly for trophy red stag hunts. Whether you’re an avid hunter, lifelong angler, or someone seeking authentic adventure in Patagonia, this program delivers a fully customizable, multi-day experience that blends fly fishing, quail, and red stag hunting.
